And he says: And they will groan like a bear and like a dove, and they will walk together. If their groaning had been comprehensible and had occurred because of what they had dared to do against the Savior, it would have been beneficial. For they needed to mourn and to groan and to lament and to weep for the sins which they had allowed to overcome them. But, because they did not even pretend to do this, they wept over the perceptible city—I am speaking about Jerusalem—and groaned incomprehensibly over its downfall; thus they have been compared with a wild animal. Therefore, the text reads: They will groan like a bear, and another passage says: “As a bear robbed of her young.” Therefore, they are called a bear because a bear is a man-eating beast, and they devoured people and committed murder, “killing the prophets.” They have been compared with a “bear robbed of her young” because of the destruction of her children.
Instead of and like a dove they will walk together, Symmachus and Theodotion write: And we will exercise as a dove exercises, and Aquila writes: And we vocalize our voice as doves do. Even after all that has happened, they still even now attempt to exercise themselves in the divine Scriptures, but this alone is all that remains for them to learn and to exercise in confessing: that they coo with their voice and seem to be no different from an irrational dove in what they do, for they utter a voice but certainly do not render an intelligible word. Therefore, Aquila renders the Hebrew text in its proper sense when he says: And we will vocalize our voice as doves. The other Greek translations set forth all the things that have been added as though it came from the mouth of the accused. For this reason, according to Symmachus, the text reads: On account of this, judgment was far from us, and it will not catch up with us. For we expected righteousness in the daylight but behold the darkness; we expected moonlight, but we walk in gloom. We will grope like blind people for a wall, and like those who have no eyes we will grope. And the next verse, which is spoken as though from the mouth of the people, is also different from the Septuagint: We were awaiting judgment, but it did not come. Salvation has withdrawn far from us.

Здесь подразумевается следующее. Как, когда есть глаза, но нет света, или есть свет, но нет глаз, чтобы смотреть, невозможно увидеть то, о чём говорится, так неизбежно заблуждается разум, желающий что-то понять, если мудрость не черпается из божественных Писаний.
Стенание и вопль их будут такими, какие бы издала медведица, лишившаяся своих детенышей, или даже голубь, по природе своей беспрерывно стонущий.
