Therefore, the ones indicated above will indeed accomplish these things, but the once inhabited fold—the people of Israel—will be left deserted, like a forsaken fold. They did not wish to follow after “the good shepherd who lays down his own life for the sheep,” and for this very reason, the land of their 177 soul will be turned into a feeding place for a long time. Thus will the verse be fulfilled among them: “A boar from the wood ravaged it, and a lone wild beast fed on it.” And there, he says, they will rest, clearly “those who devour and ravage it.” And it will turn into a wilderness, so that nothing green will be found in it. For this reason, the text says: There will be nothing green in it.
