And he says that these things will be the reasons for the removal of the sins of Jacob, and because of these things he will grant him the blessing of removing his sin. And if, as the apostle says, “she will be saved through bearing children, if she continues in faith and love and holiness, with modesty,” it follows that since Jacob budded children and blossomed such fruit, he will share in their blessing through their virtue. And the Word signifies that many will be saved through the apostolic grace and those who follow after the apostles in this life.
He says specifically that these things will happen when the aforementioned children of Jacob and the bloom from Israel will have traversed the world and filled it with their God-fearing teaching. Then, through his power, they will refute the error of polytheism which had forever prevailed over the Gentiles so as indeed to make all the stones of the idolatrous altars broken pieces like fine dust. They will make the trees and groves around their temples disappear, and they will bring about their desolation, although they were once so great as to be compared with oak trees.

Therefore the iniquity of Jacob will be taken away, and this is his blessing, when I take away his sin. You hoped, he says, to destroy the city, men and all; but for this reason I will deem them worthy of my providence, not looking at their transgressions, because of your blasphemy. This God also says through another prophet: «Not for your sake do I act, O house of Israel, but for my name's sake, that it may not be profaned among happened then as in a type. Thus also what follows has a double prophecy: When they make all the stones of the altars broken down like fine dust; and their idols will not remain, and their trees cut down like a forest. The marvelous Hezekiah also did these things; and the second book of Chronicles and the fourth of Kings teaches this. But he did this in Jerusalem alone, whereas the Lord Christ freed the whole world from the error of idols.
