У Симмаха сказано: и от самого чрева матери ты прозван отступником. Так что не из-за тебя, а от моего человеколюбия уже тогда я предсказал и показал тебе грядущее касательно гибели твоих врагов, стремясь с помощью всех пророчеств спасти тебя.

For I know, and I knew before this, that betraying, you would betray; therefore, before you were born, you had been called lawless and violent in my presence and in the presence of God who is prescient of all. Therefore, according to Symmachus, the text reads: And you were called faithless from the womb. Nevertheless, it was not because of you but because of my own benevolence that I then predicted and showed to you what was about to take place when ruin would come on your enemies, for I was endeavoring through every pretence to save you.

But your lawless purpose did not escape me; for I knew beforehand your ungrateful mind and that immediately upon being released from the slavery of the Egyptians you would forget the good deeds, and would turn to impiety. For he calls Egypt the womb and the exodus from there the birth. But nevertheless, knowing these things, I continued to do good to you, since you are called my people.
