Next, after these things, the text reads: All the nations have gathered together, and rulers will be gathered from among them. And the accomplishment of this word is the fulfillment of these deeds. For those who were once blind and deaf were transformed through the apostolic offspring, and they were gathered into the church of God. And the rulers from among the nations opposed the people of God. After saying these things, the prophet predicted that something of astonishment and consternation would befall them when he addressed them and said: Who will declare these things? Or who will declare to you the things that were from the beginning? Let them bring their witnesses, and let them be justified and speak truths. Then he says who it will be who will see with his eyes the fulfillment of all these words.

All the nations were gathered together, and rulers will be gathered from them. These then are blind and deaf, but all the nations have recognized their own God and one church was established from all, and from these very nations are also the rulers of the church. And we see the fulfillment of this prophecy; for Syrians lead Syrians, and <Cilicians> Cilicians, and Romans Romans, and barbarians barbarians. And he calls the priests rulers. Who will declare these things among them? Or who will make the things from the beginning heard by you? But you neither remember the things that have already happened, nor do you wish to learn beforehand the things that will be. Let them bring forth their witnesses and be justified, and let them hear and say what is true. He calls the prophets witnesses; for through them he both foretold things to them and testified. And the first of these is the blessed Moses, for to him he first said: "Go down, testify to this people." And he, <while> testifying, foretold both their alienation and the conversion of the nations. |153 b|
