And when they were acting profanely, not knowing their own Savior, I weakened my own hands and delivered myself to them for punishment. And immediately they became deserts, since they were deprived of my oversight. For this reason at once they have withered, and they have become like dry grass on housetops and like wild grass. Therefore, this was the cause of their destruction: they did not bear any good fruit of godliness. This is why they are compared with neither a grapevine nor an olive tree nor any of the fruitful garden plants but with dry grass and wild grass, and then they were most deservedly delivered over to your hand. But you did not understand any of these things, O ruler of the Assyrians, but reasoning in a godless and wicked way you thought that you would take the city dedicated to my God just as you had taken those that did not know God.
