Беседа 6 на пророка ИезекииляТолкование на группу стихов: Ис: 34: 9-9
And the present prophecy foretells the sort of things that their august and royal city would suffer when it says: And its ravines shall be turned into a burning pitch night and day, and it shall not be quenched forever, and its smoke shall go up above; for its generations shall be made desolate; indeed for a long time it shall be made desolate. And according to Symmachus, the text reads: Its land shall be turned into a blazing pitch, and night and day it shall not be quenched forever; its smoke shall go up from generation to generation; it shall be made desolate from the battle of battles.
In these verses the Word clearly presents that the place and the nation will be overtaken, even the furthest desert, for he continues on to say: There will be no one to march through it and there will be no one to pass through it. And he prophesies in these things that no longer will any Jew pass through that place, and already it was fulfilled in the Roman laws and edicts when the Jews were disallowed from setting foot in this place.
