And they are those whom he presents when he says next: The children of Jacob, Israel, shall bud and blossom, and the world will be filled with his fruit, clearly foreshadowing the apostolic band. And therefore, the apostles were the children of Jacob. For they were those who went out from the nation of the Jews and who budded from the “Israel according to the flesh,” and they produced a blossoming shoot 176 and a sweet-smelling flower that has filled up the whole world with its fragrance.
