And, therefore, especially in this way the Lord will be known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians will know the Lord on that day, that is, clearly in the time of their oppression. And having learned to be grateful, they will render sacrifices to him, since they will then have an altar among themselves and will then be deemed worthy by God to be priests. Therefore, according to Symmachus, the text reads: And they will offer a sacrifice and an offering. Then, it is necessary to understand the sense here, for the Word presents an introduction to the new law and 135 new covenant. For the law of Moses commanded that no altar be erected outside Jerusalem and that only those of the tribe of Levi and none other be priests to God. But the prophecy foretells that an altar to God will be erected in Egypt and that there will be priests of the Egyptian race and that sacrifices and offerings will be offered up to the Lord of the prophets. The divine apostle says somewhere: “And when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well.” And concerning these things, he states next: And they—clearly, the Egyptians—will make a vow to the Lord and repay it. For, promising with vows, they will not fail to fulfill those promises that are fitting for God, and therefore they will endure until death in their godly struggle.

And the Lord will be known to the Egyptians; and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day, and they will make a sacrifice and a gift. And he calls the time 'day,' and the mystical liturgy 'sacrifice and gift.' And they will make vows to the Lord and will pay them. He calls the promises 'vows,' which many call 'orders.' This the psalmist also makes clear: “I will pay you my vows, which my lips have uttered and my mouth has spoken in my affliction.” And he makes clear what he promised: “I will offer to you burnt offerings full of marrow, with the incense of rams; I will offer to you oxen with goats.”
