Such is their end, and making mention of the fruit-bearing branches and the healthy clusters of grapes, he next pronounces: And gifts will be brought to the Lord of hosts from a people afflicted and plucked. And this is perhaps about the one who travels “the narrow and hard way that leads to life.” And he has been plucked out or withdrawn from the common worldly life, but he is great and important before God. For this reason the text says: And from a great people. And he says that these gifts will be brought to the Lord of hosts henceforth and forever. For in the present life and in the age to come, the identified people did not hesitate to offer up reasonable gifts and bloodless sacrifices to God. And it was in reference to this people that it was said above: A nation trodden down and having hope. Because of the endurance of their hope, the text says: “And endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us.” The text says this because those who persecuted the people and trampled them down have also been trodden down. Therefore, according to Aquila, it has been said: An enduring nation that has been treaded on. You see why he called the people plucked but enduring. And he says besides: Which is in a part of a river of his land. And whom does this his refer to but God?
For it seems that this nation in a part of a river of God’s land should be understood as that which was given citizenship in the church of God, as it is said: “For we know in part and we prophesy in part.” For the land did not contain the whole river, that is, the word of God. For this reason, it is said that the nation is in a part of a river of God’s land. And the other Greek translations say: Whose rivers divided the land. For the enemies of this nation of God were persecutors when they divided the land, when those who are treacherous plague them, pressing and treading down those of the city of God. It has been said about them: “The rivers came, and the winds blew,” and again: “The torrent would have gone over us; then over us would have gone the raging waters.” And from among all of these—the people once afflicted and plucked but now set free and the nation trodden down but still hoping in God—they will offer gifts to the Lord of hosts. And the text says that they will make an offering in the place where the name of the Lord of hosts is, in Mount Zion. For the people who have suffered such things are deemed worthy “of the heavenly city,” and they will offer spiritual sacrifices by the high priest, by the Son of God, in the place where the name of the Lord of hosts is, in Mount Zion. The apostle says concerning this: “But we have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem.”
124 This is the end of the prophecy against Damascus, which began with the times discussed above and ended with the “close of the age,” the thrice-blessed finish line for the champions of godliness.

от народа крепкого. Т.е. от эфиопов (см. ком. к ст. 2).
к месту имени. Т.е. туда, где призывается имя Господа - в иерусалимский храм.
