Therefore he teaches that on that day, that is, in the time of the epiphany of the prophesied one, the Lord will further display his hand to show zeal for the remnant that is left of the people. But Aquila writes instead: the Lord will apply his hand a second time to acquire the remainder of his people; and Symmachus: the Lord will apply his hand for the second time to show zeal for the remainder of his people. For just as he once freed the Jewish people when they were “subdued in affliction” in Egypt, displaying his wonder-working hand through Moses and doing incredible miracles in the land of the Egyptians, so in the same manner he will again apply his hand for the second time and perform incredible works in order to acquire the remnant of the people and to bless them. And again here also, when he says the remainder and the survivors of the people, he is speaking about what he addressed above when he said: “And if the Lord of hosts had not left us offspring, we would have become like Sodom and been made similar to Gomorrah.” And this “offspring” of the prophesied one is the apostles and disciples and evangelists, the “remnant chosen by grace” from the entire diaspora of the Jewish people among all nations. For whether in the territory of the Assyrians or whether in Egypt, Babylon, Ethiopia or whether in the land of the Elamites, or whether in the rest of the world, there were certain of the Jewish nation who had been dispersed. He says that he will glorify and bless those who have believed on the Christ of God and who are the “remnant chosen by grace.” And this has in fact been fulfilled through his disciples and apostles. And the church of God was composed of the rest of the Jews who had received 87 the word of Christ, and the calling of all nations was accomplished through them. For “the twelve apostles” of our Savior were the first, and the “seventy disciples” followed. Paul mentioned “brothers” to whom the Savior “appeared at one time” after the resurrection and many other apostles.
Paul and Barnabas and Timothy and all the others were also of this band whom Paul called “his fellow workers and fellow soldiers.” The Acts of the Apostles also sets out their record and preserves the account that it was they “who were gathered together in one accord on the day of Pentecost” “and after being filled with the Holy Spirit, they spoke” “in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” It is also concerning them that the Scripture testifies when it says: “Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude was gathered together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, ‘Are not all these Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Syria and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling the mighty works of God in our own tongues.’” Then, those mentioned above “received the word” from Peter, elect among them, concerning the grace of the Savior and “were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.” And again, at another time, many of the Jews “believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.” And yet again the Scripture records what James said to Paul: “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law.” And the apostles and the first evangelists of the word preached among the rest of the Jewish people, and there were countless Jews from every nation who preached the Christ of God. And it was through them that the gospel was spread abroad to every nation “while God also bore witness among them by signs and wonders and various miracles and by distributions of the Holy Spirit.” God blessed them and honored them in the presence of all those who received the word they proclaimed.

снова прострет руку. Часто в этом пророчестве видят обетование Господа возвратить народ Свой из вавилонского плена. Однако такое толкование неправомерно. В пророчестве речь идет о возвращении остатка народа Божиего практически со всех концов земли. Можно было бы предположить, что пророк Исайя сквозь тысячелетия видит образование еврейского государства (осуществившееся в 1948 г. по Р.Х.). Но в пророчестве не сказано, что Господь возвратит остаток народа в землю, которую Он ему дал; сказано же, что "Господь прострет руку Свою, чтобы возвратить Себе остаток". И как рука Господа во время гнева Его оставалась простертой, пока не исполнилась мера воздаяния, так рука Его будет оставаться простертой до тех пор, пока Он не исполнит обещание. В силу этого соотнести данное пророчество с конкретным историческим моментом невозможно. Можно только с уверенностью сказать, что спасающая рука Господа все еще остается простертой.
