But yet in the preceding verse he says that the prominent shall fall and the rams and the bulls when the land will be drunk from the blood and from the fat of those who are slaughtered by the dagger of God. But according to Symmachus, the text reads: And the lofty wild oxen and the strong young bulls will be brought low, and the earth will be drunk with blood, and the scraps of their fat will be left behind. And I suppose that the divine Spirit warned them with such threatening words in order to present the vengeance of God against the ungodly and to alarm those who attend to these words in the customary and coarse way, for they are neither able to understand all the penalties that will be brought on the ungodly nor are they able to comprehend the manner of the punishment. For this reason, he has spoken very coarse sayings using very common words of fear in order that, thus being afraid, those who hear these things might turn around.

Кирилла, как и других древних экзегетов, объясняется возможною разностью в тогдашнем правописании еврейского имени Восор: или от בָּעְרָה — ограда и בָּעַר— ломать, ограждать, откуда Кирилловы: συνοχή, ὀχύρωσις, συνησχημένη, πολιορκηθὲισα (Ιδουμαία); или от — בָּשָר— плоть, Кир. σάρξ; или же от בָּשרָה — благовестие, Кир. εὐαγγελισμός. Иероним толкует это имя в первом значении: in tribulation vel angustia (Quaest. in Genes col. 776; ср. de nom. hebr. 829 и 833) и во втором (?): caro (col. 1185); Ориген — во втором: σάρξ (ib. col.— 1214 и 1258).
