This is quite similar to what was said before in the verse: “Because you have made cities a heap, fortified 167 cities so their foundations might fall.” And now, therefore, presenting the same theme of “the righteous judgment of God,” he resumes glorifying God and saying: O great, everlasting God, you have humbled and brought down those who dwell in lofty places. But, indeed, those whom you brought down from the height and humbled, and whose cities you demolished and whose mortal life you brought to an end, making their godless and wicked cities vanish, those were your meek kinsfolk, whom you blessed when you said: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
