Therefore, in enduring every hardship, we resembled a woman in travail, who lets out cries as she is about to bring to the light that with which she is pregnant. For so were we to your beloved. For they have your only-begotten Word within their soul, and the fear with which we reverence you is dispersed from you into us. And in accord with our noble birth, we bear the afflictions that have been laid on us, struggling lest we miscarry and lose your beloved, with whom we are now pregnant, and lose our God-inspired fear.

And here the prophet showed the remembrance of God as the fruit of affliction, and he also showed the swift help; for having suffered pain similarly to one giving birth, we were delivered from the pain on account of your beloved son. And continuing in the figure he added: Therefore your fear, Lord
