DANIEL IS WORTHY OF GOD’S LOVE. JEROME: That is, at the time when you did begin to ask God, you did immediately obtain his mercy, and his decision was put forth. I have therefore been sent to explain to you the things of which you are ignorant, inasmuch as you are a man of desires, that is to say, a lovable man, worthy of God’s love—even as Solomon was called Idida (variant: Jedida) or “man of desires.” I have been sent because you are worthy, in recompense for your affection for God, to be told the secret counsels of God and to have a knowledge of things to come. COMMENTARY ON DANIEL 9.23.
